National Forecast - de/40The Stuva annual report lists all planned underground transportation projects in Germany. At any given time, there are around 180 km of tunnels under construction, mainly by TBM. Of the jobs in progress, or to start in 2001, metros are a major feature, with system extensions at Bochum (2,450 m), Dortmund (7,572 m), Frankfurt (4,002 m), Hamburg-Olsdor (4,284 m), Leipzig (7,900 m), Munich (10,129 m), Nuremberg (3,986 m) and Stuttgart (10,495 m). In 2001, the Erfurt-Leipzig/Halle high-speed railway line will also require three very large tunnels in the Saxony Anhalt region at Finne (13.77 km), Bibra (12.82 km), and Osterberg (4.05 km), while the Schluchterner (4 km) is significant on the Frankfurt-Gottingen line. Amongst the proposed road tunnels, the A17 in Saxony will require Doelzschen (2.16 km), and Coschuetz (4.71 km); the L418 in North Rhine-Westfalia will need Burgholz (3.72 km); the B426 in Hesse will need Muehltal (1.05 km); and the A99 in Bavaria the Aubing (1.46 km). $45 million 1.7 km-long cut-and-cover Weserauen bypass tunnel alongside River Weser is 10.5 m below water level at lowest point. Excavation is supported by 57,000 sq m of back-anchored sheet piling behind which 460,000 cu m of soil is being removed for reprocessing as gravel and top cover. Base comprising 55,000 cu m of concrete will be placed under water in 50 sections and secured from flotation by 3,500 vibrated injection piles up to 14 m-long. Road will be two lanes in either direction in tubes 21 m-wide x 7.2 m-high, with floor, outer walls and roof up to 1.1 m-thick and internal wall 600 mm-thick, erected at 15 m/week. Baugrund Dresden Ingenieurgesellschaft mbH from Dresden secured the contract for the continuous support in the specialized fields of geology, hydrogeology and geotechnics for the design of the Usti nad Labem - Heidenau bi-national section 2 of the new Dresden - Prague railway.
