Evergreen line

07/01/2015

The construction for the Evergreen line includes a 2 km-long bored tunnel with tunnel portals located in Port Moody and Coquitlam, Canada. The tunnel is being constructed with a 10 m-diameter TBM, named Alice. Preparation for tunnel boring began in March, 2014 with set-up of the tunnel boring work area near Barnet Highway and View Street in Port Moody. After the initial work area was constructed and the TBM head was assembled, the TBM head bored far enough into the hillside to make room for the assembly of the TBM trailing gear. During this time, the work area was reconfigured to allow for full scale tunnel boring operations. The main tunnel boring activity began in June, 2014.

The single-bore tunnel has a depth of up to about 50 m at the deepest point. The excavated materials from the tunnel are removed by a conveyor belt to the tunnel work area. Trucks are used to haul the tunnel spoil to a designated site in Port Coquitlam.

At the end of November, 2014 the TBM, under Cecile Drive in Port Moody, was stopped to inspect and replace the cutter head tools, and for maintenance.

Tunnel boring is continuing into 2015. The Evergreen Line will be complete in the summer of 2016. Click here for the alignment and ca/29 for tunnelbuilder archive. Visit http://www.evergreenline.gov.bc.ca. 01/15.
